Appearing:

Lauren Salzman testified about DOS secrecy, branding, collateral-backed obedience and false denials of Raniere's involvement. The court excluded three collateral-return emails but allowed related questioning. Later confrontation and recording-authentication disputes remained unresolved.

Full day summary

Lauren Salzman continued her direct testimony about DOS, describing Keith Raniere's leadership, lifetime obedience, secrecy and collateral requirements. She said recruits were not told of his involvement or that the brand contained his initials. The government introduced DOS materials, editing emails, contracts, branding photographs and chats. Salzman described her own branding and her recruitment of six women, five of whom she arranged to have branded. She reconsidered her earlier understanding of consent in light of concealed information and collateral-backed obedience. She acknowledged linking Audrey's DOS compliance to ESP promotion even though DOS was not a promotion requirement. Her account of sexual assignments included statements attributed to Allison, distinct from Salzman's own conversations with Raniere. Salzman testified that Raniere directed false denials after DOS became public. She admitted lying to the community and media and assembling selectively favorable material, including photographs she had required women to retake looking happy. Outside the jury's presence, the court excluded three collateral-return emails because they contained specific accusations against Raniere, while permitting related questions and use of the emails to refresh recollection. Salzman later testified that collateral was withheld at his direction. After the jury left, the defense renewed confrontation concerns about statements attributed to Kristin and Carly. The court deferred its response pending review of the testimony and a proposed instruction. It also directed counsel to confer over authentication of four recordings, without deciding their admissibility.
