About
Keith Donato testified for the prosecution on Day 22 about payments for Keith Raniere's chiropractic treatment and his observations of NXIVM patients. He said Pamela Cafritz had paid for Raniere's appointments and that Marianna took over making payments after Cafritz died, manually entering card numbers. He initially assumed Marianna was using her own card but testified that he later understood she had used Cafritz's.
Donato identified 35 receipts dated November 16, 2016, through November 8, 2017, for charges ranging from $145 to $285 to Cafritz's American Express card ending in 2002. Each included Raniere's treatment, and some also covered Marianna's. He said none of those charges was declined. The court admitted the receipts as Government Exhibit 710 without defense objection, and they were published to the jury.
Donato also described concerns about Jimena Garza's nutrition, contrasted Raniere's muscle density and reported activity with very low reported caloric intake, and recalled women explaining timed phone responses as persistency drills in a women's empowerment group. On cross-examination, he estimated treating 30 to 35 NXIVM women between 2007 and 2018. He maintained that Sylvie and Cafritz had appeared malnourished, but not Loreta, and said he had not observed hair loss. Returning to the receipts, he confirmed a $145 payment dated October 11, 2017, and tentatively agreed that Cafritz had died about 11 months earlier. After the court sustained an objection to a question about perceived wrongdoing, he said he would not have processed the payment if he thought it was wrong.
