About

Sylvie testified that Monica Duran recruited her into DOS after requiring a damaging letter and nude photographs before explaining its master/slave structure. She described Duran imposing constant availability, readiness drills, escalating collateral, and an assignment to seduce Keith Raniere. Sylvie said she understood obedience as compulsory because she feared release of her collateral, and cautioned that her account of deleted messages relied on memory. She also described obtaining collateral from Samantha and Regina under Duran's direction and being instructed not to disclose Raniere's involvement to Samantha. According to Sylvie, Duran showed her a brand containing Raniere's initials, although Sylvie's own branding never occurred. Over a defense objection, the court allowed Sylvie to recount Duran's warning that Ana Gaby's collateral might be released.

Lauren Salzman identified Duran as a first-line DOS member. During playback of DOS meeting recordings, Salzman identified Duran's voice among the participants; this was recorded participation, not courtroom testimony by Duran. Salzman also identified Duran as a recipient of Raniere's October 18, 2017 email proposing a public position statement distancing him from DOS. In separate testimony, Salzman described telling Duran that the sorority's name was Bar Alpha Mu and explaining that this was to be presented as its longstanding name rather than acknowledging Raniere's initials in the brand.
