About

Nicole testified for the prosecution about joining DOS through Allison Mack and coming to believe that obedience was enforced by the threatened release of damaging collateral. During direct examination on Day 18, she said Mack presented the group as a women's mentorship and required collateral before disclosing more. Nicole described providing letters containing false accusations and a sexually explicit video without being told of Raniere's involvement or a sexual component. She said Mack later told her leaving was not an option.

On Day 19, Nicole described an assignment to promise to do anything Raniere asked. She recounted being blindfolded, taken to an unknown location, undressed, and tied to a table while an unidentified person performed oral sex and Raniere questioned her. After reviewing a document, she dated the encounter to May 31, 2016, and said she did not believe she could object. She testified that Raniere later disclosed his leadership of DOS. She described subsequent sexual encounters, requests to remove sex from their relationship, readiness drills, required naked photographs, monthly collateral, branding, and unpaid article-review and transcription assignments.

Nicole explained that Mack's assurance that her collateral would not be released helped her leave. Completing direct examination on Day 20, she identified proposed contracts requested as monthly collateral, including a risk waiver that concerned her. The contracts remained unsigned and were admitted without objection. She also described requesting the return of her collateral and deletion of photographs and Dropbox material, while remaining afraid after departure.

On cross-examination, Marc Agnifilo contrasted this account with Nicole's positive writings, affectionate and sexual messages, requests for intimacy, and financial assistance from Raniere. Nicole acknowledged benefits from some exercises and efforts to make the relationship work, but described submission, Mack's pressure, and concern about punishment. She acknowledged deleting Telegram and not repaying money she had used. She also qualified her memory of particular messages and denied plans for civil litigation or documentary participation.

On redirect, Nicole said she approached a potential recruit to avoid punishment, that her collateral had never been returned, and that she would not have had sex with Raniere had he not been her grand master. She was excused without further defense questioning. In closing, the prosecution relied on her account to argue collateral-backed coercion, forced labor, and sex trafficking. At sentencing, Nicole challenged defense attacks on her integrity and again described sexual coercion backed by collateral.
